Have you ever asked yourself, what is life planning and how do I control it? In 2011, I packed my bags and moved from a comfortable life in the states to Shenzhen, China, where I lived for six years before returning to the states in 2017. It was a time of excitement, challenges, and a bit of culture shock! When people learn of my experience, the majority question how I was able to just give up everything, uproot my life and move halfway around the world? In truth, I used a blueprint for life planning and the ability to get stuff done that helped me in the past.
I share this because my decision to move abroad wasn’t one that I took lightly. It wasn’t a spur of the moment decision, by any means. It was months of planning and preparations and no procrastination.
The plan was to work my full-time job until the very last minute so I could accumulate every possible cent. Knowing that even working until the day I left wasn’t going to be enough to survive for very long.
Because of my work schedule, preparation time was limited and I had a lot to do. The biggest thing I needed to do was find employment in China. In addition to employment, I needed to learn the basics of the language, make arrangements for a place to live, how to get from Hong Kong to my final destination in Shenzhen, pack and store my personal items, vaccinations, and a number of other things.
Thankfully, things pretty much went off without a hitch, I absolutely attribute that to a lifestyle model. I adopted it back in 2006 when I was faced with a number of difficulties and struggles. A model developed through a combination of self-help books, goal setting, and planning seminars, and even a life coach!
This was shared because so many of us have goals and dreams that may never be realized because we’re bogged down with our daily lives and routines, and that’s a shame because so much is being missed.
I am a firm believer, and living example, that if you can get your personal life organized and under control, you’ll be able to get things done and approach life differently.
Whether it’s planning and preparing for the adventure travel vacation of a lifetime, moving to another state, or abroad. What you do now can make those things happen so much quicker.
With that said, I put together a guide called the Organized Life: 5 Steps to Take Control and Conquer Life’s Problems to help those interested in taking control of their lives with a working 5 step plan to do so. In essence, it’s a blueprint for life planning and the ability to get stuff done.
